NEPAL - CONSTITUTION - VIOLENT PROTESTS

NEPAL, Terai: Nepal announced its first democratic constitution, sparking outrage among the Madeshi and Tharu ethnic communities on September 20, 2015. Demonstrators have staged protests in different parts of the Terai region, demanding a new demarcation of the state so that they are more fairly represented under the new constitution. The riots became violent and security personnel opened fire on protesters, killing at least one and leaving more than a dozen injured on September 20.
