Rap Bua celebration in Thailand
Bang Plee, Thailand, 13 October 2008: The floating Buddha image, covered in lotus flowers, on a decorated barge at the parade during the Rap Bua celebration in Bang Plee, Samut Prakan province, Thailand. The celebration is based on a legend that a Buddha image came floating down the river. Rap Bua literally means to throw lotus flower. As the Buddha image is floated down the canal on a decorated barge, people are throwing lotus flowers at it until all of it, except its head, is covered. The celebration goes on for three days with fairs, concerts and competitions, and the Rap Bua ceremony takes place on the morning of the last day.
