Coffin Ship Memorial
This bronze memorial was erected in memory of the 1845 to 1852 famine, caused by the failure of the potato crops. Many people emmigrated to America but so many died on the journey that the ships became known as coffin ships. A close look at the sculpture reveals the shapes of human bodies as rigging.
