Balinese Hindu Festival 2, Bali
Colourful statue in Nusa Dua, Bali, Indonesia. Made to be paraded in the streets of Bali for the festival, Pengrupukan. This celebrates the New Year and the arrival of spring. Over 4000 giant floats or Ogoh-ogoh depicting monsters, take over the streets across Bali. The festival's aim is to roust out the devils which have gone into hiding on the island and drive them off the island. The following day is Nyepi, when the emphasis is on silence and introspection; businesses are closed and people stay indoors.
