Male Yellowhammer sitting on Whin Bush
A small male Yellowhammer bird, Emberiza citronella, is sitting on a piece of dead whin bush. The yellow of the head is very prominent, along with his brown and yellow speckled body. At the front of the picture we can see some whin bushes, Ulex europaeus, also known as furze or gorse. These are in soft focus. We see leaves of a Bramble protruding from between the whins and a sweet briar rose bush to the right of the Yellowhammer. We see a sea behind the Yellowhammer, with mountains in the distance. The Yellowhammer is now in the red list for conservation importance due to its decline of numbers both globally and in the UK. Photographed on a beach walk from Hopeman to Lossiemouth, Moray, Grampian, Scotland
