ECUADOR - ENVIRONMENT - COTOPAXI ERUPTING
ECUADOR, Quito: Cotopaxi, an active stratovolcano located about 50 km outside of Quito, Ecuador in the Andes Mountains, erupts in the early morning of October 9, 2015. Though it has not had a major eruption since 1877, the 5,900-meter volcano has seen increased activity since August. A state of emergency was then declared, and evacuation drills have been conducted, as a significant eruption could affect tens of thousands of people.
