TURKEY - REFUGEES - MIGRANT - LIFE

TURKEY, Izmir: A family of migrants beg on a street of Basmane, a poor district of Izmir, western Turkey, on October 25, 2015. There, Syrian refugees live in rotten buildings and cheap hotels, counting their days to leave Turkey for Greece or another European country. Everywhere on the streets of Basmane, passerby can spot banners and board signs written in Arabic, from money exchange, cafes, hotels, jewelry to life jackets for sale. It is estimated that there are currently over 74,000 registered Syrians in Izmir, but the number of unregistered refugees claims much higher, bringing the total well over 100,000 people. A survey conducted by the Association for Solidarity with Asylum Seekers and Migrants (ASAM) in Turkey showed that 45 percent among these are minors, the majority are without work or stable places to reside.
