USA, Chicago: With police violence at the front of many residents' minds in Chicago, Illinois, Interim Police Superintendent John Escalante (right) and Mayor Rahm Emanuel (left) announce on December 30, 2015 that the number of police with tasers will double to 1,400. That's one taser for every officer who responds to service calls, as part of a major overhaul of the department. The announcement follows protests some calling for Emanuel's resignation following the release of footage showing the police shooting of Laquan McDonald; and the more recent shooting of 55-year-old Bettie Jones and 19-year-old Quintonio LeGrier by an officer responding to a domestic disturbance call over Christmas weekend.
