Opposition leader and presidential candidate Kizza Besigye was arrested the same morning as he attempted to leave his house in Kasangati to challenge its officials on the outcome. Uganda's veteran leader was declared the winner of the country's presidential election with 60 percent of the vote on February 20, far ahead of the 35 percent won by detained opposition chief Kizza Besigye
