Red and Black Froghopper on a rush stem.
A photograph of a true bug. This is the Red & Black Froghopper known as Cercopis vulnerata. These are plant feeding bugs that get the name hopper from the adults ability to make powerful leaps. The hoppers are perhaps best known for their nymphal stage and observed as cuckoo spit and thus often referred to as spittle bugs.
