Flood marks at the rhine gate in Linz on the Rhine
When the Rhine overflows its banks, streets and paths in the city have always been impassable, cellars and apartments have been flooded, gardens and meadows covered with mud. Since 1459, flood marks at the Rhine Gate have been testimony to the frequent flooding.
