Longyearbyen - Svalbard Islands
The settlement of Longyearbyen on the main island of Spitsbergen in the Svalbard Islands in the 'high Arctic'. Svalbard are a group of islands in the Arctic Ocean about 400 miles (640 km) north of Norway; pop. 3,700. They came under Norwegian sovereignty in 1925.
